1. Laos

Laos is often ranked as one of the cheapest countries in Asia to travel in. Daily expenses can be very low: street food costs just a few dollars, dorm beds or budget guesthouses start at minimal rates, and many activities like visiting waterfalls or temples don’t cost much. Nature is a big draw: rivers, caves, jungle landscapes, relaxed towns. It lacks over‑tourism (in many areas), so you often get more authentic experiences for less.

2. Vietnam

Vietnam is another classic for budget travellers. Food is extremely cheap if you eat local (street food, markets). Accommodation in many places is modest but comfortable for low cost. Internal transport (buses, trains) gives you a lot of value. Plus, many sightseeing options (natural landscapes, historical sites) are affordable or sometimes free.

3. Cambodia

Rich in history, especially the Angkor Wat complex, Cambodia gives great value. You can find really cheap guesthouses, street food is inexpensive, and even major tourist sights are relatively affordable in comparison to many countries. If you travel smartly (avoiding peak tourist prices), Cambodia stretches your dollars further.

4. India

India’s large size and diversity mean huge variety in travel costs, but for many kinds of trips it’s among the most budget‑friendly countries you can pick. Whether you want beaches (Goa, Kerala), mountains (Himalayas, North), historic cities and forts, or cultural immersion – if you stick to local food, use public transport/trains, stay in modest guesthouses, it’s very doable with minimal cost.

5. Indonesia

It’s more than just Bali. Indonesia’s many islands offer places which are very cheap once you get off the most touristic tracks. Homestays, simple guesthouses, local food, public boats or ferries: all of these make getting around affordable. Even popular regions can be reasonable if you avoid high‑end resorts.

6. Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers a mix of beaches, tea country, wildlife and cultural sites. Accommodation in modest hotels or guesthouses is often inexpensive; food from street stalls or local eateries is cheap; transport (buses, trains) are affordable, though some tourist spots or private tours raise the cost. If you travel a little slower, using local services, the cost per day stays low.

7. Nepal

For travelers who love nature, trekking, mountains, culture, Nepal is tough to beat from a value standpoint. Accommodation and food in many areas are very cheap; many treks or hikes are low‑cost outside of peak seasons; buses, guides etc., can be hired affordably if compared to similar offerings elsewhere. Plus the scenic beauty is outstanding.

8. Bangladesh

This is less visited by many travellers, so prices remain low in many cases. Cost of lodging, food, and transport are among the cheapest in Asia; cultural experiences and natural beauty (rivers, mangrove forests, rural areas) are available without needing to spend a lot. However, infrastructure in some areas may be more basic, so some flexibility and planning are needed.

9. Thailand

While parts of Thailand are more expensive now (especially in popular islands or high‑end resorts), there are still many budget options. From street food, cheap guesthouses/hostels, affordable travel between places, and many free or low‑cost attractions (temples, beaches, markets), Thailand remains a favourite for travellers who want comfort + value.

10. The Philippines

Island life in The Philippines can get a bit more expensive than mainland Southeast Asia in some spots, especially when flights or ferries are involved, but plenty of choices make it possible to travel affordably. Homestays or budget inns, eating local food, avoiding expensive tourist traps; you can stretch money quite a bit. Gorgeous beaches and nature are big draws.
